Did you know that asthma is the most common chronic childhood disease in the UK, significantly impacting school attendance and health, especially in deprived communities?
NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) Sandwell is pleased to announce a fully funded PhD studentship in partnership with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and the University of Birmingham. This project aims to investigate how poor housing conditions—such as dampness, mould, inadequate insulation, and poor heating—affect asthma control and educational outcomes among children.
Through mixed-methods research involving surveys and interviews, the successful candidate will explore practical ways local authorities, schools, NHS services, and communities can collaborate to improve indoor air quality, reduce harmful exposures, and support better health and education outcomes.
