On 1 August, the WM-Net Zero team welcomed residents, families, community organisations and local partners to the Brockmoor Community Climate Celebration at Brockmoor Community Centre for a day of learning, creativity and conversation about healthier, more sustainable neighbourhoods.
The event was opened by Sonia Kumar MP for Dudley, who highlighted the importance of working with local communities to tackle climate change while improving health and wellbeing. Visitors explored a range of interactive activities, including local air quality and emissions maps, healthier homes, climate adaptation workshops, energy-saving advice from Citizens Advice Dudley, and children’s activities delivered by Mums for Lungs and Magic of Play.
The celebration also showcased emerging findings from WM-Net Zero’s work in Brockmoor and Dudley, giving residents the opportunity to discuss what these mean for their community and to share their own experiences and ideas. The event featured the winning entries from the children’s drawing competition, recognising young people’s visions for a greener future.
Throughout the day, attendees were invited to make a personal Climate Pledge, committing to simple actions that can collectively contribute to cleaner air, healthier homes and a more sustainable future.
