West Midlands Climate Change Plan 2026–2031 Published

The West Midlands Combined Authority has published its Climate Change Five Year Plan (2026–2031), setting out a roadmap for reducing carbon emissions and improving environmental outcomes across the region. The plan outlines key actions across transport, housing, and energy, with a strong emphasis on delivering benefits for both climate and public health.

WM-Net Zero contributed evidence to the development of the plan, including research from the University of Birmingham quantifying the health benefits of climate action. This includes measures such as the electrification of buses and the retrofitting of homes with insulation and heat pumps, which can reduce air pollution, improve living conditions, and support better health outcomes. The plan reflects a growing recognition of the importance of integrating health considerations into climate policy and regional decision-making.
